How a Nonprofit Conserved 32M Gallons of Water with One Keyword Text Campaign

Focused on water restoration, renewable energy, and carbon, the Bonneville Environmental Foundation (BEF) markets a suite of green power products to public utilities, businesses, government agencies, and more.

The Oregon-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit also supports watershed restoration programs and vital initiatives like the revolutionary “Change the Course” campaign. As a first-of-its-kind project, Change the Course acts as a platform to address water shortages, support on-the-ground water projects, and engage stakeholders in conservation and restoration.

Nonprofit Runs Campaigns for Delta & Nat Geo

The Challenge: Finding Easy, Affordable Ways to Activate Large-Scale Participation

Initially developed in partnership with NatGeo and Participant Media, Change the Course mobilizes conservation efforts by restoring 1K gallons of water for every individual pledge received. The success of the pilot campaign (restoring 2B gallons of water) persuaded BEF to expand — but they needed more efficient methods to tabulate incoming pledges.

Implementing EZ Texting has been a game changer for us. It's already helped us make some very significant changes to fresh water supplies across the U.S. and I'm excited for our future together.

The Solution

Working within a nonprofit’s budget, BEF sought a customizable, automated system to streamline administrative issues — tracking and categorizing with the click of a button. It also dramatically boosted pledges and furthered initiatives by offering an easy Text-to-Donate option.

The Results: 16,500,000 Gallons of Restored Water

Partnering with more than 50 corporate sponsors like Coca-Cola and Crayola for various campaigns, BEF has turned to EZ Texting for several of their high-profile campaigns. One project utilizing Keywords for customer acquisition has returned and restored over 32M gallons of water. Another in partnership with Delta and Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport received 23K Keyword opt-ins, translating into 23M restored gallons of water.
